Well friends, tomorrow is my birthday. Tomorrow I'll turn the grand old age of 29. Don't get me wrong, I'm excited. I like birthdays. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I might just love birthdays. I’m not afraid of getting older. And, I'm one of those people who subscribes to the idea that birthdays are meant for celebrating. The entire month of your birthday actually.
It’s funny that I’m even writing this post, or writing this list because at heart I’m not really a lists person. I SO wish I could be a lists person, but I’m not. I mean I use lists from time to time when I go to the grocery store, or on a trip or if I’m having a really insane week and I need to prioritize but really I’m not a lists person. I leave the lists up to Liz and Laura. They are lists people and maybe I should be more like them because they are crazy good at getting things accomplished and basically they will probably take over the world someday.
But, after reading Brianne’s post on her 30 before 30 list a few months ago, I was reminded of my own impending birthday and this tradition. I remember seeing these '30 before 30' lists take off across the Internet a few years back and since I’m not a lists person I didn’t jump on the bandwagon. Additionally, at 25 I wasn't even sure what I wanted to accomplish before I turned 30. But with 29 just around the corner, I decided that it was time to write my 30 before 30 list.
My 20’s have been good to me and, I’m sure like most, not at all what I expected. I’ve accomplished more than I could have ever imagined and done things much differently than I ever thought I would. I’ve thought about this list a lot and I wanted to make sure it encompassed things that would be fun and also challenging. I am a bit terrified of some of these goals (i.e. blogging twice a week consistently, and playing sand volleyball in a bikini) but overall I look forward to accomplishing and enjoying all of these. Additionally, I wanted to make sure I left room to grow in these goals because if I’ve learned anything in my 20’s it’s that things change and you must be open to renegotiation. So, the last three items on my lists will be decided throughout the year. This way, when adventure comes my way, I’ll hopefully be ready.
So, here’s to being 29 and all of the grand adventures ahead!
