Well, this is the week of personal posts over here on This Grand Adventure. I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen with some new recipes that haven’t actually panned out which is why they aren’t up here on the blog. So, instead, you’re hearing a little bit more about me.
In case you were keeping track, which I’m sure you were. Wednesday marked my quarter-birthday! Woohoo! 3 months into 29! Yippee! It also was my father’s birthday. So, here’s a quick shout out to my Dad. Happy Birthday, Papa! Love you so much!
Anyway, I wanted to give you a little update on where I’m at with my 30 Before 30 List. You can see from the pretty chart above, that I’m slowly making my way through it. Actually, it looks like I haven’t accomplished much in 3 months time but as you will see I am making some headway.
Here’s a quick update on each area:
While nothing in this section is crossed off yet, I have been making progress on a number of these items. While I can’t play sand volleyball in a bikini quite yet, as it’s the middle of winter, I have been using #5 to get in shape for it. So far I've been cross-country skiing twice. I had planned on going again this week, but the polar vortex set in and I’m going to wait until it warms up to a balmy 20° until I venture out again. I’ve also been running indoors and been attending regular Barre classes to get in shape for the rest of this category.
Woo. The last few months have been a whirlwind of travel. As you already know, I successfully completed #7 and #10 in December. I’m hoping that #8 is completed by my half-birthday, as the warm weather down South has Austin and Kaileen calling my name.
In attempts to complete #14 I’ve been attempting to make a different roast chicken recipe each month to determine my favorite. So far, I think Jamie Oliver’s Chicken in Milk is the winner, but I’m going to try this Naughty Way to Roast a Chicken sometime this month, so we'll see how it goes.
Let’s start with #16. I didn’t attend a blogger conference, although I still have my eyes set on a few, but I did take a class from Alt which was phenomenal. I'm hoping to take a few more throughout the spring.
I just started reading my first book last week and began with Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? , which was a quick and enjoyable read. Now. I’m onto the Gretchen Rubin’s The Happiness Projectand then to Tina Fey’s Bossypants. I may be three-quarters of the way done with #18 by the end of January. Boom!
#19 has gone pretty well so far. It’s kept me honest and also kept me aware. I started utilizing an editorial calendar, which some weeks works better than others, but so far, I’m proud to say I’m on the way to successfully completely #19.
#23 was the first thing to be accomplished on this list, and only days after I posted it. My dear friend Rachael, and avid sailor offered to take me out on Lake Michigan one Friday afternoon last fall. It was such a fun experience, and I can’t wait to go again in the spring. I'm itching to get #22 out of the way next time it snow, as I've been scouting sledding hills for weeks now.
Just for Fun
I’ve been thinking for weeks about what I would do for my new goal, #27. Nothing seemed quiet right. My sister-in-law mentioned after our visit to Idaho that my niece and nephew told her that they wished we lived closer. This got me thinking about being an Aunt and what that means. I had the most wonderful and thoughtful Aunts growing up and I definitely want to be that for these kids. So, right before I was about to fall asleep the other night, when I usually do most of my brainstorming, I came up with this idea. I would write a handwritten letter to my niece and nephew once a month. I figured it would be so fun for them to get in the mail and a great way for us to stay connected to them despite the distance. So, welcome to the list #27!
