Great Tips for a Good Morning

Sunshine Smoothie | Recipe by

As I shared on Monday, living a healthy lifestyle has become more and more important to me. While I’ve always been active, I’ve taken real strides in the last few months to be more conscious of my diet and fitness routine so that I’m always feeling my best. I’m grateful to be surrounded by an incredible group of women who are also seeking a healthy, active and happy lifestyle.

Link Love

Current background on my computer via oh my deer can be downloaded for free from design love fest.

While I would like to tell you I have some fancy recipe ready for you today, that would be a lie because the last week we’ve been mostly making kitchen staples and frozen pizza. And yes, you did read that correctly, even this foodie eats frozen pizza from time to time. My husband’s work schedule has ramped up and I started a new job at the beginning of the month that has challenged me to find balance between work, blog and life. After weeks of good meal planning, it’s kind of just gone out the window the last 7 days.

Amongst this time away from the kitchen, I have been able to catch up on a number of good reads and other things, which I figured I would share here. So until I can crank out something new, here’s a bit of what I’ve been up to.

Beer Float with Whiskey Ice Cream

Beer Float with Whiskey Ice Cream | Recipe by

Today’s post is short and sweet. We made these fancy little drinks a few weeks ago when our friends, Zach and Emily, were in town. We’d been dreaming it up for months after we first tried Purple Door’s Whiskey Ice Cream. I’ve become a big whiskey fan thanks to my BFF Laura. This ice cream’s bourbon-like, sweet-cream flavor is over the top and completely addicting. So, when we were searching for the perfect dessert for our visitors, nothing sounded better than a couple large scoops of that whiskey treat topped with a dark luscious beer.

Winter Makeup Tips

Winter Beauty Essentials #WalgreensBeauty #shop

I’m thrilled to be trying something new here today. While food and travel are a big part of my world, I’d also like to begin sharing some of the other elements of my life. I'm excited to start incorporating in a few more lifestyle posts, so today I’m going to share with you a few of my winter makeup tips.

I’ve mentioned it before, but this winter has been a rough one. The cold weather and short days have really taken it out of me. The freezing temps have done a number on my skin and I’ve been feeling really lax about my beauty routine. In an effort to re-energize myself, I decided to play with my usual go-to look and popped over to Walgreens for some new  beauty items.

Recipes Around The Web - Green Goddess Salad with Kale

Kale Salad with Green Goddess Dressing and Roasted Chickpeas Recipe

You guys, it’s just been one of those weeks. I had everything set up to go smoothly and no matter what, I’ve just felt upside down. I’m blaming it on the fact that the awful bug that kept me bedridden last week is still lingering in the form of nasty head cold. This post was supposed to go out Tuesday, Wednesday and again yesterday and now I’m finally, finally getting it finished and up. So, I give into to the universe and whatever weird path it has me on right now.

Anyway, this salad. Oh man, this salad, I don’t even know where to begin. I am genuinely obsessed with this kale salad. One of my all-time-favorite bloggers, Felicia, of posted it and I knew I had to try it as soon as I saw it. We’ve eaten at least once a week since.

Kitchen Staple - Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake

Chocolate Chip Coffee Cake Recipe. Perfect Breakfast or Brunch Treat | Recipe by

Something about this time of year is just so lovely. The bright and colorful Valentine decorations, my mailbox filling up with charming little cards, an excuse to simultaneously wear hot pink lipstick and nails . It all just warms my heart. I love that there’s a bit of sparkle in the air. I find Valentine’s a nice reminder to tell your closest friends and family how much you love them.

We’ve been going full-speed lately, which means a low key Valentine’s Day is probably on our horizon. It’ll be nice to just hang out with my husband and perhaps exchange cards or a small gift. But, I’ll most likely spoil him by whipping up one of his favorite sweet treats, my chocolate chip coffee cake.

Recipes Around The Web - Roasted Cauliflower and Parsnip Soup

Recipes Around the Web | Roasted Cauliflower and Parsnip Soup Recipe by Spoon Fork Bacon

I’m lying in bed writing this because, unfortunately, I'm home sick with a nasty cough. I’ve spent the last few hours trying to nap but sleep isn’t soothing me. Instead, I’m dreaming of this Roasted Cauliflower and Parsnip Soup that I made a few weeks ago. It was during our first or second polar vortex, I can’t quite remember but this creamy soup has been haunting me since. And now as I lay here, I’m craving it’s comforting and savory flavor.
