Link Love

While I would like to tell you I have some fancy recipe ready for you today, that would be a lie because the last week we’ve been mostly making kitchen staples and frozen pizza. And yes, you did read that correctly, even this foodie eats frozen pizza from time to time. My husband’s work schedule has ramped up and I started a new job at the beginning of the month that has challenged me to find balance between work, blog and life. After weeks of good meal planning, it’s kind of just gone out the window the last 7 days.

Amongst this time away from the kitchen, I have been able to catch up on a number of good reads and other things, which I figured I would share here. So until I can crank out something new, here’s a bit of what I’ve been up to.

On Cooking:

I love these little infographics by The Faux Martha on Measurements to Know by Heart. I’m constantly forgetting what + what = what, and found this adorable and super helpful.

On Exercise:

As I approach 30, I really want to embrace myself and appreciate and like my body. Skinny is not my intention but rather I would like to feel strong, healthy and, to be honest, look great naked. Maybe it’s just me but I’ve noticed this as a trend in the blogosphere and have found great reads from some of my favs including Felicia of Love.Life.Eat, Grace Atwood of Stripes & Sequins.

On Fashion:

I’ve been living in yoga pants and exercise tops. After spending years in pencil skirts and pearls, I’m loving the fact that I can embrace my fit side and still feel great about the way I look. I’ve been scouring the Internet to find the best athletic looks and put them together in this little Pinterest Board.

On Food:
I’m Contemplating giving up sugar again for Lent this year. This woman and her family did it for a year! Lots of good tips on ways to avoid hidden sugar and things to think about.

What I’ve been listening to:

I’ve been a long time fan of Tristan Prettyman, and I just discovered her new album Cedar & Gold. I’ve been binge listening to it on repeat for a few weeks now. It’s painfully beautiful and I can’t get enough of it.

What I’ve been snacking on:

These thinkThin bars have been keeping me energized between barre class and work. While I’m not too keen on the name (although their philosophy seems more in line with the “fit not skinny” mentality that’s more appealing to me) I do really enjoy them. I’m a huge Larabar fan but needed something a bit more substantial. I found these at Trader Joe’s and while the price is a bit more, they’re filling and pretty tasty.

And on a side note, my friend Annie, amazing fitness blogger from Des Moines, wrote this little piece on about how to pick the perfect protein bar. I find myself grabbing these more and more often when I’m needing a quick snack or post workout. It’s good to get perspective on what’s really helping and really what’s just a glorified candy bar.

  1. As always, I love your posts. I can't wait to check out Love.Life.Eat and I love that your intention is to get strong not necessarily skinny. I gave up "sweets" not necessarily all sugar for Lent last year but somehow justified that pastries like muffins and scones weren't a sweet (because they were a pastry, duh) crept back into my diet. Might have to consider giving it another try!

    1. Thanks, Annie. I really appreciate your support! And, sugar is SO hard to give up but such a good challenge.

  2. Awe I loved this post, very cool!
