Beer Float with Whiskey Ice Cream

Beer Float with Whiskey Ice Cream | Recipe by

Today’s post is short and sweet. We made these fancy little drinks a few weeks ago when our friends, Zach and Emily, were in town. We’d been dreaming it up for months after we first tried Purple Door’s Whiskey Ice Cream. I’ve become a big whiskey fan thanks to my BFF Laura. This ice cream’s bourbon-like, sweet-cream flavor is over the top and completely addicting. So, when we were searching for the perfect dessert for our visitors, nothing sounded better than a couple large scoops of that whiskey treat topped with a dark luscious beer.

We happened to have Edmund Fitzgerald – the porter made by Great Lakes Brewery - already in our fridge. This is an amazing porter that you can enjoy over 12 ounces and have your thirst completely quenched. It’s a meal in a glass. But depending on your taste buds, it may be too strong of a compliment to a flavorful ice cream like the one we chose. So for the faint of heart, start with a subtle stout like Guinness to compliment your ice cream and then advance to the porter when you’re ready for next step.

Next time you’re in or near Milwaukee, stop on over to Purple Door and pick up a pint of this awesome ice cream and a six pack of your favorite dark beer. Head to your nearest kitchen and pour yourself one of these after-dinner treats. I promise you won't be disappointed.

Whiskey Ice Cream Beer Float

1 pint Purple Door Whiskey Flavored Ice Cream
1 dark beer (we used Edmund Fitzgerald but you could easily use Guinness or Tall Grass Brewing Company Buffalo Sweat Oatmeal Cream Stout)

To Make Beer Floats

Place 1-2 generous scoops of the ice cream in a small glass.

Pour desired amount of beer over ice cream.

Serve with a spoon and enjoy this delicious adult beverage!

  3. This is making me miss good ol' American beer! Spain's is quite awful! I'm also so very impressed that the photo moves... I may need some help with better the size/display of my photos from the master! Keep up the good work!

    1. Thanks, Mack. You'll be home before you know it and missing that Spanish wine and tapas!
