Life Lately - April In Review

Hey! Hey! I’m here. I promise I’m really here. Sorry for the unplanned hiatus.

Let’s start from the beginning. My husband’s work schedule has been brutal lately. Given our inconsistent calendars, we haven’t had a day off together, in almost six weeks. I’m used to spending time without him but this stretch has been one of the most challenging we’ve ever faced. On top of it, he’s spent the last 14 days on overnights. We’ve seen one another for about an hour or less each day. He usually gets home from work just as I’m waking to get ready and then leaves to go back before I can return home. I thought that breaking up this treacherous two weeks with a visit to my old stomping groups and surrounding myself with some of my favorites would be just what I needed to get me through this two-week ordeal. And while it was lovely, it only curbed the pain for a short time.

I knew it would be hard but the last week was just rough all over. Between the irregular schedule and a handful of curveballs that life threw my way, I tried to be strong and resilient but it was just too much this time. Last week felt as if the universe was testing me, seeing how hard it could push me before I broke. I felt exhausted, lonely and, at times, defeated. So, while I can’t hide my disappointment in myself for dropping the ball on blogging, between everything that’s gone on the last two weeks, it was the thing that gave.

With that, let me tell you that this week has already been better. I’ve been concentrating on the things I can control and taking moments for myself by doing daily meditative yoga and baking batches of a new cookie recipe I’m trying out. Overnights ended today, and my husband and I spent the morning dinning at one of our favorite breakfast spots, disconnected from all types of technology, just enjoying one another’s company. I already feel more balanced and happy. The next month should be a little less aggressive and now that I’ve made it through the worst of it, hopefully, I can handle whatever the world decides to throw at me.

Healthy Egg Salad with Greek Yogurt and Capers

Healthy and Fresh Egg Salad with Greek Yogurt and Capers. Simple and delicious springtime meal. | Recipe by

We’ve been moving a million miles an hour around here. At this point are you surprised? The husband has been swamped with work and I’ve been making to-do lists and scheduling my week out by the hour in order to keep our heads above water. Last week the Midwest gave us a good glimpse of what spring is actually supposed to look like. We were spoiled with 60° days filled with sunshine and the smells of spring. I ate my lunch alfresco and we walked up the street for happy hour on a patio. Those few days made me remember why spring is a time filled with hopefulness and awakening.

30 Before 30 - Half Birthday Update

30 Before 30 List |

Pretty sure I have no idea how it’s already my half-birthday. I feel like I was just writing the post for my Quarter Birthday and now here we are, three months later.

Anyway, I don’t have as much to update you on this time around. This list doesn’t look much different than it did three months ago. Probably because the winter of 2014 has been slowly killing me inside and I’ve been counting down the days until warmer weather. Things have mostly stayed the same, which means I’ve got my worked cut out for me these next six months.

But since, I’m officially closer to being 30 than I am to being 29, I thought I would give you a short update on the status of a few of my goals and introduce you to goal #29.

Life Lately

I’ve mentioned before that I don’t like making excuses, so I’m going be completely honest. The last two weeks just took me by storm and managing the blog + work + life + volunteer commitments, well, it was just a bit too much. I needed to take a little break. To take a step back and feel energized again.

It’s important to me to be forthright and honest about who and what I am. I’m a woman of many talents but sometimes having it all is not one of them. I try to balance (or whatever that means) as much as I can. But, depending on the week, one of my commitments may receive more of my time than another. I try not to over commit but sometimes, I get ahead of myself and life happens and it all hits me at once.

I put a lot of pride into the work I produce. I strive to make sure it’s always high quality. Creating a great post takes a lot of time. From developing an original recipe, to photography and editing, to post writing, plus social media sharing and more. I’m not trying to complain, just be honest about what’s involved. I commend those food bloggers who post three times, if not more, a week. I would like to say that I could do it but I’m not sure if I can. I’m going to continue to attempt my two posts a week (the goal I set in my 30 before 30 list) and on a great week I’ll post three or more times. But if I’m only posting once a week, just know I needed a little break.

This blog is a major part of my life and is constantly helping me to explore and develop. I want to keep it up to date and thriving. I love this space and this community that’s developed with it. I am incredibly grateful for this blog and what it has brought into my life. And I absolutely, cannot wait to see how it continues to grow.

Thank you for your patience and following along with me on this grand adventure.
